Light drifting Rods

Light drifting rods

Light drifting is a fishing method from the boat, different from bottom fishing since it consists in letting a dead bait (usually a sardine or anchovy, whole or filleted) “drift” in the current. The rigs suspended in the current may catch pelagic fish bonito, mackerel, chub mackerel, horse mackerel, false albacore and dolphin fish, but also white seabream, dentex, and large gilthead seabream. The rods we selected and put in this cathegory are best for light drifting, though they can be successfully used for the same fishes from port docks and in general in all fishing methods that need no long casting.

Light drifting rods: multi-piece or telescopic

Experienced anglers prefer long, fast-action rods for light drifting, two features which help have a good contact with the prey pulling the other end of the line: multi-piece or telescopic rods, robust and with a sensitive tip at the same time, as their tips are made of fiberglass or solid carbon. Unlike what happens in tuna fishing, in light drifting fixed-spool reels are used, with a reliable drag.
